And the winner is....Matthew! We were getting ready to go to a friend's house to exchange presents yesterday afternoon and Matthew was really angry. Hailey had woken him up from their nap and he wanted to sleep more, but couldn't go back to sleep...blah, blah, blah...same old story. We just figured that he was tired, so when we got to our destination, our hosts graciously dragged out their pack and play and Matthew fell asleep. He was asleep for most of the time that we were there...poor guy.
When he finally did wake up, he was irate. He usually wakes up smiling and very happy to be alive. Last night, he was not happy at all. Bill picked him up and he would barely open his eyes or look at anyone, and was very rosy in the cheek area (which we have learned is the sign of a fever with him - thanks to the vaccines he received on Friday). We decided to leave (which bummed me out because I was having fun catching up and drinking wine) and by the time we got home, he was leaking fluid out of his nose, eyes, and mouth (totally gross by the way - I don't handle snot well). We fed them, skipped baths, gave Matthew Tylenol, and put them right to bed. He had a real hard time sleeping last night...I was up every hour on the hour just soothing him and helping him go back to sleep.
At one point (yes folks...one point - LOL), Bill got up to soothe him and came back to bed to tell me that it would be a good idea to set up a changing area in the guest bedroom so that he wouldn't wake Hailey up if he needed to be changed. It was a good idea, but I couldn't help wonder why he didn't just do it since he was up already! Guess thinking processes aren't so hot at 1 AM! I mentioned it today and he barely remembered it and said, "Well, it IS a good idea, right?" Too funny...middle of the night antics!
This morning, I called the doctor's office and the nurse told me to keep an eye on the fever and the eye, but that it sounds like the common cold. He's hanging tough though...he's putting on a brave face, cuddling a lot, and trying to smile through it. Hailey is being very pleasant which is exactly what we need. She is coughing a little (dry cough), but not getting a fever or any stuffiness yet...I'm hoping in a way that she doesn't get it even though I know that it's good for her to get sick too. Bill worked from home today which is extremely helpful b/c he can handle Hailey while I have to deal with Matthew. One of the most amazing things about Matthew is his ability to sneeze great distances...I think he's going for a world record!!! I am trying to keep Hailey (and myself) out of the line of fire, but it's almost impossible...we'd need a gigantic umbrella! It's pretty gross...still, he's handling it.
So, that is our day! Hope your day is going a little better!
