Happy New Year...I guess...if I have to...

Am I the only one who doesn't get into this holiday? I've never really understood it. No, I mean, I understand the passage of time and the fact that the year is over and we're on to a new one...I get all that. Here's what I don't get about New Year's Eve...
  • standing in the cold (usually freezing cold with rain or snow) to watch a ball drop and kiss someone in a crowd of unruly drunk people...yes, I'm from NY and I have never been to Times Square for New Year's (gasp)...and it doesn't bother me one single bit.
  • the song...don't get the song at all (but I do like it when they sing it at the end of It's a Wonderful Life)
  • fireworks (in winter...isn't that a Fourth of July thing?)
  • resolutions...these should be renamed as "false promises."
What I do like is looking back on the year to see what you have accomplished, conquered, failed at, improved at, or just plain survived. This I get...why wouldn't you want to do a little self-evaluation? God, I sound so fucking old...next year, I'll probably hate the fact that people drink champagne on New Year's Eve! What is wrong with me???

Anyway, rather than making resolutions (because although I don't understand why people make them, I find myself making them from some obligation to society), I am going to make a list (yes, seriously...another list) of things that I will continue doing and things I will stop doing.

  • I will continue to get to the gym 3 times a week (when possible)
  • I will continue to try to organize my house.
  • I will continue to bake more (I actually like this new "hobby).
  • I will continue to try to expose my kids to more things regardless of the weather (I am very weather-driven...I won't do thing if the weather is bad and that makes me suck as a mother).
  • I will stop making excuses when I don't want to put my clothes away...it really doesn't take that long at all.
  • I will stop putting myself down for my physical appearance...it ain't so bad.
  • I will stop putting off making phone calls (I hate the phone with a passion, but I feel like I'm falling out of touch with people).
  • I will stop thinking I can do it all and let some things go...I have to...much too stressful!
So, that's it...my feelings on New Year's Eve laid out in random lists (as usual) and I'm probably all alone...maybe it's just me...maybe I'm the only one who doesn't really enjoy this holiday. I'm fine with that!

I'm not a huge fan of New Years either. I don't dislike it, I just don't really get into it. DOn't do the resolutions. Maybe I am a New Year's Scrooge? Either way, Happy New Year!

I agree. But the weirdest part is when Deborah's family bangs on pots and pans at midnight. Why?

I agree, I think the holiday is overrated. Even in years where I've tried to celebrate it, it seems like the night was always a let down. Maybe there's too much pressure to have an amazing time on this specific night of the year. Why is that?

The other thing that I hate about New Year's is that there aren't any holidays for what seems like forever.

Anyway, I still hope you guys have a great 2010!

LOL! We aren't big fans of the holiday either. It's too cold to go out. Too many many drunks on the road, and half the time, we celebrate New Year's in the Eastern Time Zone (we are in Central) just so we can get it over with and go to bed! But, Happy 2010 anyway! :)

I'm not a huge fan anymore, although I thoroughly enjoyed it in my heydays!
I don't even bother with resolutions, I do what I want, when I want, regardless of the date on the calendar.
Yeah, I suck.
