First, Hailey is crawling! She started to do it yesterday when we were playing in the basement. I am so proud of her and she is totally cute when she does it! She's so proud of herself! Here are a couple of pictures of her in action.
Second, Matthew is walking...it's not his preferred mode of transportation, but he can do it. He actually crossed the whole living room this morning to get a snack! I really need to get it on video, but I haven't been able to yet!
Okay, back to the vacation. By this point, the kids were really missing home. I think they just needed their space and wanted to be back in their element. Bill and I were getting snappish with each other too and that's never good. We tried to talk it out, but we were just tired and needed some alone time. It happens...it's part of marriage.
Thursday: This was another chill day for the kids. We didn't have anything planned to do, so we just hung around the house, went shopping (it's been ages since I entered a Pier 1...they don't look kindly upon twin strollers). If we were going to make it to the beach on any day, this would have been it, but it poured rain all day. The kids really wanted to go outside, but we just couldn't do it. We played...a lot. Thank God for other people b/c those are the days that drive me nuts! My sister and I got sushi that night and when we went to pick it up, it was raining really hard. We had to run through the parking lot in shorts and flip-flops...I wouldn't recommend it. We had to pick up pizza for Bill too...he's obsessed with the pizza in NY...so much better than MD! So, we're running and I'm using the pizza box as an umbrella. We were laughing and having fun and it was nice just to be silly! We watched Big Brother (my mother hates that show) and just went to bed! We needed a day like this before another long trip.
Friday: We got up early and got ready. The kids could tell something was going on b/c Mommy and Daddy were busy packing while Aunt Manda and Grandma got to play with them. We packed up the car and made it on the road by 9:30...not too shabby! It was hard to leave. I was glad that my sister stayed until the next day b/c it's really hard for my Mom to see us all go at the same time. Her house must have been so quiet! The trip was much better getting off Long Island. I drove the Long Island/New Jersey leg of the trip, but then I was getting really tired (the babies slept like shit the night before) and Bill drove the rest of the way. We stopped twice this time...first in New Jersey to have lunch and then again in Maryland to lay out a blanket and crawl around while we had a snack. They really needed that...we really needed that. There is no way I will do that trip again with only one stop like we did on the way up! When we finally pulled into the driveway, the kids were so excited. Bill pulled Matt out of his car seat and he actually squealed with joy when he saw the house. They notice all of these things that I don't...it's amazing! They played in the living room while we unpacked most of the stuff. They were really happy to be back in their living room. We all slept really well that night...we couldn't hear ever little baby noise and the kids were just beat!
All in all, it was a great trip. I don't know if we'll make it back before next summer, but we'll try...it's a pretty tough one for us. Plus, we need good weather to make it possible for stops and taking Brie out to pee. I couldn't imagine doing all of that in winter weather! That's all for our vacation. We have a busy August...my sister-in-law's bridal shower, the kids' first birthday party are the biggest events that we get to plan and execute...that's right...plan and execute. These are now my missions!!! More later...there have been a lot of cute twin things going on that I need to get down...my kids are getting funnier every day!
