Friday Night Leftovers - The "What Does REM Sleep Feel Like Again?" Edition

  • I seriously lie awake at night wondering why the Crazies would want to kill me.  I feed them, change them, play with them, do things for them, and yet, they're still trying to kill me.
  • We have had a serious lack of REM sleep in this house for about a week now...and it.is.killing.me.
  • When I say "we," I mean "me" because Husband "can't hear" the babies on his side of the bed because the heat is too loud.
  • Okay, Buddy...
  • Yes, I should probably let them cry it out, but they're sick.  I hate CIO when they're sick.  I just feel that when they're sick I should be a little more understanding.
  • Yeah...written in black and white, that sounds pretty stupid to me too.
  • Maybe I should adopt the Chinese method of mothering.  I'm pretty sure I have it in me.
  • It was only Matt waking up, but now Hailey has joined in...her reasoning isn't as desperate at Matt (who really can't breathe sometimes and also has night terrors)...nooooo...she wants lotion.  Or she wants to be tucked in...WTF????!!!!????
  • Poor Matt really can't breathe though, so as soon as I hear him having trouble, I rise from my incredibly light slumber, stumble in there, grab a tissue, and seemingly try to smother him with it.  Nice...take a kid who can't breathe and pinch his nose shut with a tissue.  That won't send him into a panic at all!  No wonder he's trying to kill me...he probably thinks I'm trying to kill HIM!
  • The sad thing is, I usually can't find his nose on the first try, so I'm just repeatedly grabbing different parts of his face.  No wonder he has night terrors.
  • At one point last night, Husband raised his head slightly to a child-noise and said, "I'm up."  Here are the things that flew through my head:  "who cares?" "you're too late."  "go back to sleep...save yourself!!"  "well then why aren't you on your feet?" AND "who cares?"
  • This has to end.
  • I have to break this vicious cycle.
  • Abuse is cyclical...if I don't stop it now, they'll just keep doing it.
  • Oh, and we're going away this weekend...kill me now.
  • OMG...they're awake RIGHT NOW!!!
  • THEY'RE COMING TO GET ME!!!
  • SAVE YOURSELVES!!!!
  • Oh wait...you don't live here.  You're not screwed...it's just me.

Thanks to Danifred for hosting this ridiculous outpouring of emotions...I'm not sure she would actually support it or consider it appropriate to FNL, but she gave me a forum and, dammit, I'm going to use it!

Oh no, I hope they feel better soon. Sometimes, I would take a fever over being stuffy. Is there anything worse than being stuffy? Hope you get some sleep soon : )

Now, you know me and you know what I am going to say. Of course them being sick should make you more understanding when it comes to night waking. I will not let Maddie cry it out, even though she is now two. If she wakes in the night, I let her potty (if that's what she wants) and then tell her go back to sleep. If she has already pottied, then I tell her she can't get up until the sun comes up. So she watches her window and waits! 'm just saying that I don't think it is ridiculous to go to them.

OMG...you saw the Chinese mother article too? Thanks for reminding me I wanted to go read more about it. My first thought: these people are CRAZY! (I know, it's just a different lifestyle, but WOW.) I started reading the follow-up the author wrote yesterday afternoon, but had to leave work before I finished. Basically, I think she said the essay was an exerpt, and that her book is actually about how she finally came to deviate from the extreme Eastern-style parenting. Interesting stuff.

I am no good at the tough love, cry-it-out thing when my kids are sick too. But Hailey and the lotion? Hilarious. (Sorry!)

So funny! I'm there too, all my kids are full of snot and can't breathe. Last night I took some NyQuil and I can't remember waking up at all in the night, which is bad because I woke up in my sons bed. Yikes! No idea what happened, but at least I got some sleep! I feel rested.
Good luck getting some sleep this weekend. You could always try NyQuil (for you, not the kiddos).

I hope you can get some sleep. I lose my mind when I don't get sleep....what little of it I have left.

We did CIO when they were younger, but now if they are up crying it is for a reason, but lotion? I think she is pulling the sympathy card. "Hey, you get up with Matt, how about me?"

Do you have a coolmist humidifier in their room? Do you lather Matt up in Vicks? E is still figthing his 3rd week of this cold. If he is stuffy, I later him up with loads of Vicks, and have been keeping his humidifier on every single night.

Are all men programmed not to hear their children wake up? It is more than annoying, and those same thoughts have entered my head a time or two.

man...is there something in the air? Our kids haven't been sleeping well this week either. ALl have had colds so that is probably why but yeah - it makes for a long week when you're woken up repeatedly each night. Oddly...Adam was the one that was the worst - ran a fever and thought he was going to end up with croup...but it was the other two that woke me up repeatedly!! wth??

I can so relate! Bean has been sick for a few days and I've been up every two to three hours. It's like having a newborn again. I am utterly exhausted.
I can't wait until they are teenagers because I'm going to make their Saturday mornings torture as payback!
