You Must Have Me Mistaken For Someone More Awesome and My Woman Cave Dreams/Aspirations

So, while I was reading through some of yesterday's comments, it seems that you have mistaken me for someone much more awesome.  I'm just average though...sorry to burst your bubbles.

When I mentioned 3.5 months of meals planned, I meant the past 3.5 months!!!  To date, I'm only planned through Sunday of this week.  I was just proud that I'd kept up on it since January...go me!

Then deflated that you mistook me for freaking Martha Stewart and I could never live up to your expectations!  ;)

I know there are people who can plan meals for an entire year, but that just ain't me.  I can only go week by week because life around here is a little nutso!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, some of you know how badly I want a space of my own in our next house.  Our space is pretty limited in this house and that's fine...this was supposed to be our "starter house."  Thanks to those idiots who took out loans they couldn't afford and the bankers who were greedy that they would have sold their own testicles for bigger bonuses, we've been stuck here a little longer than we originally thought.

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Anyway, I started this fantasy of having a room of my own...of my very own...where no one else was allowed.

Doesn't that sound heavenly?

I already know the color scheme and that I'd want a bunch of windows, a large table for projects, my very own desk (imagine that!), bookshelves for my very favorite books (as many are now housed on Kindle...what a space saver), a lounge chair with a pretty lamp, maybe a refrigerator...hmmm...I should have it soundproofed too...maybe a kegerator...

Oops...sorry...got lost in my own fantasy.

As I was browsing through blogs the other day, I happened upon this page...just click it.  It will make you happy.  It's titled A Room of Her Own...perfect, right?

I just freaking love it!!!!!!

Here are the parts that send me over the edge!

  • The watercolor of the dress hanging above the desk...much too frilly for any other room in the house, but perfect for MY room.
  • The closet painted a serene color...what a little hiding space...love it!
  • The DISCO BALL???  REALLY???
  • Those tiny little vases that Husband would deem "useless" each with its very own bloom
  • Multiple bulletin boards for pieces of inspiration that float in my general direction
  • A couch
  • A table and chairs
  • A window seat
  • I just can't stand it all!!!!!
  • Oh, what about the neutral walls with white accents???  Don't you just love that workspace???
  • Frilly and totally girly chandelier...I'm dying over here!!!
  • See that capiz chandelier in the picture with the zebra chair...I have it...in taupe...in my living room...and I still want the white one!!!!
  • Zebra chair???  EXCUSE ME!!!!!
So, what would you have in A Room of Your Own?

I understand your anger about mortgages, but place it on the federal government who assured people that everyone "deserved" a house of their own AND Freddie & Fannie who FORCED banks to credit those who can't. Want to hear something ridiculous? My husband and I are retired, thus live on a pension (a joke) and investments. We did not qualify for a mortgage. We had to pay cash for it which gives you an idea of our savings. HOWEVER, if I went to our local fast-food joint and got a part-time job, we would have qualified for a mortgage with no deposit. Our country is a freaking mess.

A diva den? That would be heavenly. Mine would definitely need a door to keep the little monster out. And soundproofing so I couldn't hear him screaming a beating on the door.

All the ones shown are so pretty. And girly. Awesomeness!

I have been thinking about this a little because we are looking at buying in the next year. I have decided that our house either needs a formal living room or a den in the Master Bedroom area. I won't have a Diva Den (it would be shared by me and hubby) but we NEED a kid free zone, and I would have all decorating rights to do whatever I want with it!

LOVE the zebra chair!

Amy you are my friend for life! True but Bec's right also. Between the two of you, I couldn't have explained it better myself...

If you would like your own room, move back home! I have plenty of room!! Just kidding, of course. But I do believe that your ideas would fit nicely downstairs, don't you think? You could design and help me set up "your" room which I could then call "my" room - I like that idea SOOO much! :)

How do you plan meals for an entire year? I struggle getting through one week! Dear Jesus, there must seriously be some super Moms out there!

I'd love a room of my own. I don't even get to call the bathroom my own.

I can't even begin to let myself think about having an entire room to myself...I would soon have to come back to reality, and then I would surely have to purchase and consume an entire bag of jelly beans to cope with said reality.

But...how I would love a big comfy chair with a nice lamp and a side table...where I could leave my books, undisturbed. And how I would love a big table / work area. I've been scrapbooking this week again - which I love - but it's such a let-down to have to clean up and reorganize my entire mess after each session. :(

Oh, and I want a bulletin board! I don't want one hanging in my kitchen (although can one truly avoid that with kids???)...hmmm...

OK. Must.stop.now. Thanks for making me drool this morning. :)

Totally with you on the mortgage craptasticity. Cannot. Wait. Till. We. Can. Move.

I want to move too - area's nice (bit of a drive to get to stuff) but the house has way too many issues.....

haha, I misread the 3.5 month thing (pre-coffee, that's my excuse)

My "room" - um, fluffy chair, lots of books, a tv, wine fridge, and soundproof walls. :) (And maybe then I could finally set up my little Bob Ross art set that hasn't been touched)

LOVE the zebra chair and the little closet space. My mind started racing about which closet I could claim for my own...but really, who can spare an entire closet??

I think the most important thing would be a lock that my kids can't pick.

We're stuck in our starter home too! Big FU to the banks! I'll be lucky to make any money on this house when I sell it now, thanks! Our 5 years is in October and guess who won't be moving!!!

Ugh, I long for a space too. A little less cutesy though. Same elements, but slightly more cave-y. I love the dark, cozy, library feel. I'd prefer lots of weird angles and nooks, like an attic space. Dark woods, lots of natural light, an oversized cushy chair, and a shag rug that I can roll around in and not worry about crunchies. I think I'll have a moat in front of the door to keep everything under 3ft out incase they make it past the retina and palm readers.

Oh, sounds so very amazing!!! I want a dream home that cost starter price! Is that too much to ask?!? You concept sounds pretty good!! It makes me want to put together an exhibit of cloth, colors, pictures and drawings!!! How fun! Hope your week has gone well!

I would take a nap in my own little room : )
Ok, somewhat kidding. It would be definitely be kid-free though.

Our house is a decent size but there's certainly no "me" space. The kids have their play room, hubby has his workshop (which is quite messy though and he doesn't spend much time out there). We 'share' the den which is mostly off limits to the kids but its a mess of extra computer parts, etc (its DH's home office). It also houses my sewing machine (which I don't have time to use anyways...) the elliptical and is the "catch all" room in our house. I just pray I don't break my neck when I have to try to get in the corner for something...ugh!

And thanks for clarifying the 3.5 months of meals. I don't feel so bad now! ha!

I have a comment on your poll this week. I read a quote today on twitter that is appropriate - You can't be lonely if you like the person you're with.

oh...and I noticed you'd reached 200+ followers...but now back to 200...uh oh..who'd you piss off?

As they say, dream big, right?

I want a room with a lock, soundproof, a big long desk with no junk, a window seat or big bay window, some seating, and some refreshing paint.

Is it wrong that I want about five rooms of my own- each for one of my personalities? :)
