Sometimes I want to close my FB account down for good.
There's so much crap that comes across and, truthfully, I just don't give a shit about most of it.
Then something funny comes along, so I'm like, "okay, I'll stay on for another week."
I've never given a relationship so many second chances!
That's right...I just likened FB to a relationship...see? I have issues!!!
Okay, I like God...I really do. However, I find it unnecessary to constantly give him shout outs on FB. Does he even have an account? Oh, that and HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO CONCENTRATE ON YOUR "MESSAGE" WHEN THERE IS A QUOTATION ERROR THAT IS SO BLATANT RIGHT THERE IN YOUR SECOND WORD???? Seriously...I can't correct a grammatical error on a God Message, right? That's just rude, right?
This is a shout-out to Marcia...because I know she loves these things. Let me start by saying that I am not a fan of cancer, child abuse, sex predators, or any of the horrible things that people think we can eradicate on FB. That being said, I also refuse to "give up" my status up to these messages for an hour...primarily because it will do no good, but secondarily because I'll probably get busy and that damn status will be up there for weeks...
This was written by a former student who has moved away from home. I do keep in touch with several former students via FB and I question that decision sometimes. However, when I come across a kid that I was worried about...that I knew was having a hard time...and he's finally found what makes him comfortable in life, it feels pretty damn good. Not that I had anything to do with it, but just that he's realized that he doesn't have to be like everyone else and he can create his own path. He lives in a pretty superficial place right now and this status made me laugh out loud...I love it! This kept me on FB for another week!
Let's face it...my birthday probably keeps me on FB for another 6 months rather than a few weeks...NOTHING is better than a FB birthday. Did you know that I responded to each and every one of my birthday wishes this year...that's right...and for no good reason! I just thought it was damn sweet that people would take a minute to wish me happy birthday...it's the best! (either that, or I have no life)
Given my constant struggle with fairy tales (another post...can't believe I haven't written about this yet) and whether or not I want to introduce them to the Crazies, this post made me feel validated. It's true...these "characters" are horrible examples of what we want to show to our children, yet we keep opening ourselves up to the same ethical debates...year after year. This status made me realize that I wasn't alone in thinking this fairy tale stuff is just creating more work for us as parents!
What is your relationship with FB like?
Evil? Conflicted? Loving? Masochistic?

Oh, I am SO with you on this one! I keep FB around for the entertainment value...I figure even the "repost this as your status for one hour" things say something about the people that post them, which makes for relatively fun conversations I have with myself. HA!
I was reading something recently, about social media and the impact it is having on today's youth. The article could really apply to folks of any age, though...how FB and Twitter, for example, subconsciously encourage us to see ourselves as a brand, always thinking about what we post and what it says about us.
I know I'm guilty of thinking of what I would deem to be cool / clever updates...because, of course, I want to be cool and clever. :)
It just made me step back and think how much FB allows people to present the tiniest snippets of their lives, often in a boastful way.
Grain of salt...I'll take it for what it's worth...and enjoy my exaggerated eye rolls and tsk-tsk-tsks at people I went to high school with, in the comfort of my own kitchen.
And FB birthdays are the best! :)
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks people on facebook are crazy. I can't stand the posts saying "It's daughter week" or "It's great husband week". Give me a break! I think I stay on facebook because it simply makes me feel better about myself.
Amen sister. Grammar mistakes, spelling errors, punctuation errors, make me rethink my friendship with people. How am I friends with someone who doesn't use the proper form of there, their, and they're??
And i'm done with the weeks, or repost this if you care, or what not. FUCK OFF. :)
I will unfriend someone for two many God posts. I find it incredibly annoying and pushy. I'm all for people practicing whatever religion they choose if it doesn't hurt anyone else, but who wants to read those sappy posts all the time?
I will also unfriend those who play all the games. Don't give a shit what you just did in Farmville!
I have un-friended someone for to many god post...I can't stand it.
Love this post! The ridiculous "causes" and "donated statuses" stuff drives me crazy. Yes, we all want to cure cancer, but posting about it on my FB is not going to help. I have hidden the most annoying FB offenders from my feed, so my FB is primarily for keeping up with the friends I actually like. That, and the few people who actually post witty updates.
One of my biggest FB gripes is the complainers. You know, "Oh, I have had a headache for two days straight", "My kids are sick AGAIN", "I have so much to do, poor me!" I don't need to know, and more to the point, I probably don't CARE.
I'm a FB stalker. I don't really comment or make myself available to people but I do love pictures. I constantly view pictures. I pick apart things in people's house and judge them. I'm a snot.
I like to post cute baby pictures and have everyone comment! HA! I am needy. But I love to watch the drama, so much better than TV. FB is usually a win-win over here! I have been known to stir some drama with the sister on FB.
I can totally beat your god posts!! My uncle is the provost for a bible college and missionary. Always waiting to see what the good lord has in store for him!!
I'm wondering if you could copy and paste the snow white, etc. . .post so I can copy and paste it to MY facebook? I'm too lazy to actually type it all out.....(Must be the sleeping beauty)
so. i totally use fb for stalking my MIL. she doesn't speak to us, this is the way that i learn stuff. for example? she's coming to my state this summer for an extended period (3+wks). i learned of this on fb. now we can prepare and get ready for how we will handle this before she drops the bomb on us (which is usually less than a week before she arrives). i have a lot of people hidden. i like to see what people are up to, but not actually talk to them. it feeds into my anti-social but stalker side :) lol.
I have such a love hate relationship with FB. I hate annoying bragging people who never fail at making me jelous, but I admit to bragging too, posting the one picture of my kids where they are actually pretending to like eachother and smile even if was bribe induced!Amanda @ http://thelittlelilypad.blogspot.com
thanks for the shout-out.
drives me nuts, as you know. Same as like those emails that used to come around - would it surprise you to know I had a template in autotext and I said something like please don't send this to me blah blah blah :)
I only go on FB at work from 12 - 1 if I don't have other things to do. I read a few things, usually update my status, now I'm adding some pics every day. I hate those people that pretend all life is beautiful - I have some friends like that and I want to write rude things on their walls sometimes but you'll be glad to know I resist!
Oh I am so with you on this whole FB i was so tempted to delete mine the other day. I am just sick of the nonsense. and the people who have nothing better to than
1. Start Drama on FB
2. put up "Chain Statuses"
3. Talk about how I need Jesus
4. Brag about how wonderful life is because yes I am blessed with what I have but I am also human so I am going to have bad days too you can't be happy 24/7 people
I went on a deleting spree last week... and then again this weekend. I enjoy funny posts on FB
Then there are some people who post 100 plus pics of thier kids a day I mean no offense people they are cute BUT DAMN I mean come on
I also HATE CHECK INS AHHHHH
Okay thanks for letting me vent I am done now.
I also like to be a creeper.... (insert evil laugh)
One more thing.... I think I should create a check in's like this
1. I am On the Shitter...
2. Having a quickie in the bathroom.
Those would be funny right?
I see Blogger deleted your comments too.
I hate Facebook, yet I stay.
Much like I hate Blogger right now.
I think its a love hate relationship...for me. Some days I just roll my eyes at all the freakin FarmVille shit...really? WHO HAS THE TIME AND STOP SENDING ME THAT SHIT! And then posting 10 thousand youtube videos.
But there are the select few that post really funny stuff that makes me laugh and actually interact with...and they think I'm funny too :o)
I tried to comment yesterday but that obviously didn't happen...which is fine since it would have disappeared anyways!
I get annoyed by all the repeat posts on statuses, too. I don't do any of the games of any sort on FB either. (Still laughing that you thought I was doing Farmville last week when I posted flower pics! ha!)
I'm not on facebook as much as a lot of people, mainly because all 324 of my closest friends seem to be fueding every other day. I mean, I live halfway across the counrty from most of them, but we can keep the fights alive via facebook!
Once again, I totally agree with you and thank you for having the balls to talk about it. Ordinarily, FB makes me feel like such a loser and brings me very little joy. I'm not sure why I stay on other than the fact that I can't maintain a normal friendship--you know, when you go out and do things with people--and FB is quite possibly the laziest way to maintain a friendship. Sad but true. But FB bdays do rock--so much so that when I didn't get many bday wishes cuz I'd locked down my privacy settings and the date wasn't displaying, I changed my settings and celebrated my bday again! :)
I use all of those words to describe my relationship with facebook. It truly is a love/hate thing. Drives me crazy.
And I HATE when people can't freakin' spell or use proper grammatical procedure!
That being said: I wonder if I spelled grammatical wrong.
Love and hate relationship. Drama at my age - grow up, people, grow up.
But, then I think of all my bloggy friends who I adore and I stay.
