Seriously?
No...
Can't be true...
The Crazies nap for like 2 hours every day...sometimes 2 and a half!
So, why in the world would they suddenly start skipping their nap?
That's right...my spawn has morphed into Nap Skippers.
I am devastated...what do the Brits say? Gutted? I am gutted.
Yes, that sounds much more appropriate...you should have the visual of my lying outside of the bedroom door with my innards on the ground next to me. There should be an air of desperation and torture.
Because that's how dramatic I am.
Friday they spent their naptime jumping in their cribs, laughing, screaming with giggles, and enjoying each other immensely.
I was in the fetal position in the shower.
Saturday, we were at MomMom's and PopPop's house, so that was all very exciting. They were sleeping in the travel tents (which provide no containment whatsoever) and it was ugly. They were running around the bedroom, jumping off the bed, laughing, playing games, throwing pillows...everything. No sleep.
Sunday, we spent the morning in Cousin's pool and playing in their yard. Matt could barely keep his eyes open on the 15 minute car ride home and jumped into his tent when we went upstairs.
And yet, they still spent the better part of an hour running, playing, and jumping. That is until I threatened to separate them. At that point, Hailey lost her shit and started SCREAMING her head off...I'm pretty sure she fell asleep screaming.
Poor Matt, right? He always gets dubbed as the ring leader, but it's definitely Hailey this time.
So, can I call this "the end of an era?" I hope not...I really enjoy this era. After all, I use naptime to shower my gym stank off, watch Days, catch up on emails, make phone calls (not social calls either...I have no friends...I call important people to hold my life together...doctors, contractors, hair dressers), clean, regain my sanity, fold laundry...ya know, the stuff regular people do. The stuff that people whose children didn't turn to the Dark Side are still doing...I envy those people.
I am going to try to institute Quiet Time...it's hard with these tents though. Tomorrow, we leave for G.G.'s house where I was going to try to get them to sleep on mattresses in preparation for toddler beds, but geez...won't that just seem like one HUGE trampoline??? Of course this happens when I'm on vacation and have no real good way of containing the madness, right?
Ya want to know the worst part? The other day, Husband mentioned how well the Crazies had been sleeping...I almost jumped down his throat screaming "JINX! JINX!! DON'T YOU DARE SAY THAT! YOU'RE GOING TO JINX IT!"
It was too late.
It had been said out loud.
And clearly, I was right.

It seems that even to this day if we mention the health of well being of either of the kids, something happens to screw up our thinking. So yeah, I understand about being mum on the whole sleep bit. If they are aware enough to comprehend a bribe, I would bribe them......Mine would get a cookie with their milk or a sucker (think the small dum-dum pops). but they had to take a good nap.
My daughter took naps until a month before she started all day kindergarten. And when she started kindergarten she napped in the classroom for most of the year during quiet time.
Maybe it's because of the trip? I have the girls in their cribs still and I think it's the only reason they still nap. Grace takes 40 minutes to an hour to actually fall asleep. It's torture. I have given up a few times and theyve not napped but it kills me. It's the Only time I can get anything done. I feel your pain so immensely. Hopefully things will get back to normal when you get home? If not, I'll send alcohol.
shitballs! this sucks. i hope they get back into it. maybe they'll just exhaust themselves? :(
also: what tents are you using? we've been thinking about getting tents for our vacation in august. i thought they zipped up? what ones do you have? i totally need to pick your brain. seriously. these are in my amazon cart as i type. i was purchasing them tonight. gah!
Don't they have "allergies" when they are on vacation? LOL My aunt just commented on how they used to drug us with benadryl when we were little and going on a long car trip so we would sleep.
Nap is far to important to lose! Don't give up without a good fight!
Jacob gave up naps about a year ago. I can get maybe 1 or 2 naps in every 2 weeks. Sarah takes one at daycare still almost every day. Its hard to get her to take one at home but then again, if she doesn't go to school, she gets 1-2 hours extra sleep in the morning so I guess it events out. Adam still naps most days and if the other 2 don't nap, I can at least put a DVD on for them during that time where they get some quiet time.
Hang in there...hopefully its just the excitement and change in routine right now. I'm sure they'll be exhausted soon enough and take a nap!
My twins just quit their daytime naps a few months ago, but I have to say it hasn't been that bad while we're home. I do make them sit and do some quiet activity (movie, playdough, etc.) so that Dawson can still sleep. And now everyone goes down to bed at nighttime with much less hassle.
Maybe it will be better once your back home? (picture me smiling awkwardly/hopefully for you here)
Sounds like an earlier bedtime will be needed now?!?! Maybe you can do your "regain your sanity" activities if they hit the sack earlier.
That day was a sad day here too, but it's gotten better. Now Abby takes a nap, and Alex stays up and chills with Daddy over lunch time when he comes home for lunch. It's nothing like having 2 hours to sit and do what I want, those days are gone, gone. And they won't "rest" together so we have to separate them because Abs really needs that nap. I'm sorry, it really does suck!
It is not over. Nope, no way. I would separate them. If ever possible, always separate them. We are visiting family now and getting them to nap, has required me at times to sit in the twins' room and wait until they have fallen asleep. But, they have all napped every day, except for Addy who was allowed to skip a nap a couple days.
No. No. No. I refuse to allow naps to go away. No. No. No.
Mine didn't really give up her nap, I took it away because she wasn't going to bed. Not that it matters, I still mourn its loss.
But to loose it during vacation, that's just cruel. Mine becomes a mess in the afternoons, totally unreasonable and has been known to fall asleep in the late afternoon. Watch out for that, tricky little ones they are, trying to screw up bedtime when I've, I mean we've made it that far:)
UGH...Surely it's just the excitement of being on vacation?? Maybe??
some days G will skip her nap, but she always stays in her room.
She actually started sleeping better when we took her crib face on - I was amazed!
I hope they sleep - no napping is so not an option.
