Night Terrors are Terrifying (for me...apparently the kid has no memory of them)

My thoughts from last night in the very best recollection I can come up with:

Wow...ever since we saw the doctor, Matt hasn't had a night terror.
I won't say this out loud though...wouldn't want to jinx it.
Sleep...sleep...sleep...sleep.
Wake up with Matt...can't remember why.
Why the hell is he wearing socks?
Sleep...sleep...sleep.
Wake up with Hailey (Husband gets up...bless him)...she couldn't find her blanket.
She was lying on top of it.
Sleep...sleep...sleep...sleep.
MOMMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYY!!!!
Holyfuckingshit...
What is that?
Is someone dying??
I must sprint out of bed like a fireman!
What the fuck is going on?
Which one is it?
Matt...it's Matt.
Good for you, Mother of the Year.
Go to the far crib.
Touch him...any flesh eating bacteria?
Monsters?
Is he hurt?
Nope...just screaming like a crazy man.
Dammit...I hate when he kicks the crib slats.
Shhhh...shhhh...shhhh.
Oh wait...I'm not supposed to say anything.
I'm not supposed to do anything.
I don't want to take him too far away from REM sleep.
I'm just supposed to ride it out.
What about MY REM sleep??
Ugh...it's not about me.
I'll make sure he has Louie...here you go buddy.
But he's so damn loud when he's kicking his crib...I don't want Hailey to wake up.
Maybe I'll just grab his feet really gently.
OUCH!
He kicked me!
WTF??
I'm just trying to help, dude.
Okay, hands out of the crib.
Awww...poor kid...Mommy's here.
I just can't tell you I'm here because I might wake you up and apparently that's worse than this screaming kicking torture that we're going through right now.
That makes lots of sense.
Thanks, Doc!
HAIIIIILLLLEEEYYYYYYYYY!!!!  NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
OMG...that was said with anguish.
I feel so bad for him.
Maybe I'll just touch him a little bit.
Oh...that seems to calm him down.
Maybe I'll just rub his back a little bit.
Holy shit, it's working.
Wait...did I just fall asleep standing up?
Shhh...shhh...shhh...
That's right...go back to sleep.
Damn...I'm afraid to stop because the screaming will start again.
I'll just ease off.
That's right.
Back to sleep, buddy.
Hands out of the crib.
Quietly out of the room.
I kind of have to pee.
Screw it...back to bed right now.
I'm tired.
OMG...I'm so tired.
Ummmm...
I can't fucking sleep.
Awake...awake...awake...
Night terrors suck...for parents...kids don't even remember them.
Awake...awake...awake...
Resent...resent...resent...
Lightning.
Thunder.
Worry that I'll be awake until morning.
Fight urge to look at clock...do I really want to know what time it is?
Lightning...awake...thunder...awake.
Think about blog post.
Awake...awake...sleep...sleep...

Poor little guy. I like to think the "Haily nooo" was him protecting his sister...not yelling at her. That would be the brotherly thing to do.

And as someone who has been up since 4:47 (but who's counting minutes) I feel your pain. Here's to an easy rainy day for both of us (hahaha...like that'll happen)

Ughhhh...I have heard those are really bad. I dread the kind of bad dreams where they don't want to go back to sleep. I am NOT at my best in the middle of the night!

Maybe you can catch a nap today??

Poor Matt! And poor MAMA!!!

How long has this been going on with him? Did it start all at once, or come on gradually? Is it attributable to a certain age / developmental stage?

Hope you don't mind the inquiry...B has started talking more in her sleep, and I was wondering if there were any precursors to what Matt's going through.

Will he just outgrow it?

Hoping you have an easy day (???) after what sounds like a crazy night!

OMG that's so terrible. Poor thing. And poor you. At least if he was awake you could comfort him. Geez. :(

Poor kid and mommy - I am not a fan of waking up in the middle of the night any more. I would be nervous to let him move to a big bed, what if he wakes up and starts sleep walking?

Eeek! You're not suppose to soothe them? Is he totally asleep? This would drive me mad! I don't do so well between the hours of 12-7. Hopefully this FANTASTIC weather will help you catch a nap!

Tot has had them forever. We just ignore it now. It sounds awful, but she doesn't remember anything about them.

One of mine has had them for what seems like forever, too. We used to ride them out for the most part--just listen to him thrash and scream from the warmth of our bed (we're not heartless, but it does get cold!). Then one night the yelling sounded different. Went in to find him sitting on his brother's bed holding a blanket OVER his brother's FACE. Both slept through the whole thing. Go figure. ME? I am traumatized!

They seem to be worse when something has stressed him out or made him very upset during the day. But, there really isn't a rhyme or reason to them, which is maddening. If you told me why they happen, I would make sure we avoided it. I like my sleep too much, too!

Gosh, Rebecca, that sounds scary for both of you!

My heart would also stop!

I'm ancient; so when my son had them, advice DID NOT EXIST. As a matter of fact the term "night terror" wasn't used until AFTER we figured out what worked best for him. You're right, they are terrifying to observe. Know what? To this day, if he is severely stressed, he'll have one.

Break my heart! So tough to hear/see.

DH has night terrors. He's had some crazy things - like honestly? when we lived in an apartment, years ago, our neighbors called the cops b/c of his screaming and my yelling try to get him to settle down. They thought he was beating me. FOUR cops showed up and would not leave until I made a full appearance and they were reassured that I was not black and blue. crazy shit!

For him, he has them when he is either over tired or stressed.
