| Thanks to Cheryl for giving me something to look for every single Monday (when I remember). |
So, we put our faith in Amazon and bought these OK to Wake night-light Owl thingies. We were just sick of bedtime issues and, more importantly, Crazies waking up at the ass crack of dawn demanding activities.
These are a nightlight with music to fall to sleep (adjustable time setting). The music is so calming...it almost put ME to sleep! If the child wakes up before it's time, the owl actually tells them to go back to sleep. Oh, and it's much nicer than me hissing, "go back to sleep...it's the middle of the night for God's sake!!! Everyone in the WORLD is sleeping!"
When it's time to get up (after the allotted 2 hours for nap or at 7:00 AM), the owl's face changes to green, yet remains quiet. If the child squeezes the owl's tummy, it says that it's okay to wake up and plays a happy song.
It's the cutest thing ever.
The first time I set it for naps, I didn't do it right and the owl never changed green. It didn't matter though b/c Matt woke up in a raw mood (I'm guessing night terror turned "waking up on the asshole side of the bed") and when I reset it and it finally went off, Matt said, "Oh, Mack...I'm so pwoud of you for turning gween!" And the tantrum was over.
Hailey has been awesome about staying in bed until it turns green. Then she'll quietly call me to let me know it's green. In the morning, if we have time, I've been giving her the option to stay in bed and read or come downstairs. She's been reading...love that girl.
Matt is still getting up before the alarm, but we're working on it. He's a tough nut to crack, but he does like the owl. And, by "like the owl," I mean he's mounted it...like he does everything he likes. I am also attributing some of his sleep behavior to being in his own bed and being given more freedom, but that's another post entirely...still, I love that kid.
So far, I love these things too. They're cute. They're reasonably priced (if you only have to buy one...Husband was a little put off by the fact that we had to buy two). They're multi-purposed (nightlight, music player, and alarm clock). They're easy to set and easy to use. The only thing I don't like about them is that you have to reset it each time...from nap to alarm clock. That's all though.
I have to thank my friend, A, for introducing these little owls to me. Like so many other things in my life, she has given me something that definitely makes my life more manageable. Where would I be without her? LOL...no, seriously.

Ah-h-h-h! Selective memory or perhaps you're being kind for NOT mentioning the Stomp Rocket and Scout and Violet fiascoes.
Very cute! We have the one that is supposed to also teach them to tell time. It's not as cute and snuggly as that though. And all it does is very loudly scream the current time in a horrible robotic voice whenever she pushes its foot. I like your better.
Glad they're working!
i've seen lots of things that help the kids know when it's okay to get up. wonder when they will understand that? T apparently woke up for the first time at 5:45 today while i was at the gym. he was able to fall back asleep, but i'm worried that may become a "regular" thing if left unchecked!!
Very cute - especially like their names!
wow! so cute and practical!!
I'm so glad J&S have reached an age where they can recognize the #s on their digital clock. We can tell them "You can't come out until the clock says 8" on the weekends. After a very late night Saturday, we even told them not until it says 9. I never heard a peep out of them until Sarah came tip toeing in at 9:02 and told me it was 9 now and asked if she could go downstairs to color. Loved that! What else I loved? That Jacob and Adam slept until after 9:30!
So glad to hear that's working for you so far!
I just happened to read this post right after the girls woke up BEFORE 6AM today. Wha???
Once upon a time, they were 7:30am girls...and that's gradually moved back to 6:30-ish. I am actually dealing with that OK, but before 6 is So Not Cool. I did tell them that it was too early to get up, and I got another 15 or so minutes from them...at least long enough to scarf down some cereal...but it really felt like a long morning. :)
Cracking up that your hubby scoffed at having to buy two. Hahaha!!!
Uh oh, what are the Scout and Violet fiascoes? ;)
I will definitely be sharing this with Bee. It's much better than just yelling at them to go back to bed.
These are adorable! I could've used one between the ages of 2-4 when I would wake up at 3am, demanding to watch Sesame Street. Whoops.
The owls are PRECIOUS!!!! (and mine might be embarrassed to admit it, but think they could benefit with a wee bit of nitelite actioon!)
Sleep inducers are DEFINITELY Monday Makers....thanks for linking up!
Those are super cute! Thankfully, we don't have major issues with early wake up. If they do get up before 620, I make them go back into their room until I get them.
I wonder if those would work on my kids! Garrett and Landon always wake up at the ass crack of dawn and then they wake Cole and Bella up, which results in 4 whiny, cranky kids.
Does the owl hiss "Get your freakin' ass back in the bed before your parents beat the crap out of you!"
That might work for my kids.
On a side note, the owls are very cute, just like your kids!
