Wednesday are typically yoga days.
It's my strength yoga that I love. It's my strength yoga that helps my recover from my Monday class. It's my strength yoga that makes me feel, well, strong.
The Crazies woke up as usual (which means Matthew an hour early and Hailey 15 minutes late).
They asked me "what we doin today?"
I told them.
They both immediately said, "I don't wanna do dat...I wanna do nuttin."
Typically, I'd ignore the Crazies, cajole them into agreeing with my agenda, and ignore their pleas for autonomy.
Today was different. I gave in. We played hooky from our regularly scheduled programming.
I let them watch the Disney channel with cereal while I got ready.
I made them pancakes for breakfast with squeezy applesauce.
I fought with Matthew to put his shoes on.
We ended up in the car.
We were off to Target to take pictures of toys.
WHAT??? WHO GOES TO A STORE TO TAKE PICTURES OF TOYS???
We do.
This year, since we can't write and have no idea what we actually want, we're creating collages for Santa with pictures that we've taken as well as items cut out of catalogs.
I seriously can't wait to see them.
I have no idea what made me come up with this.
So, there I was, snapping pictures like crazy in Target. The items the Crazies picked out were awesome and really helped me know how to shop this year. I seriously had no idea what to get them.
I think I'm going to get them "Hungry Hungry Hippos" too. Is that a good idea? I can't remember what the game is like, but I do remember that it's hysterically funny if you're a little kid...what isn't though, right?
The one funny thing that happened was when we happened upon a aisle with an Asian woman and her kid...she was waiting patiently as her son played with something in the middle of the aisle. Suddenly, Matt finds something that I desperately needed to capture, so I start snapping pictures. I mention something to this woman about making a collage, but it's clear that she doesn't understand English. No biggie...she was very nice anyway, but I'm almost positive she was thinking, "and they think WE'RE the crazy tourists with our cameras all over the place...who in the world takes pictures of TOYS in TARGET??"
Yup, I'm a loser.
How are you guys doing Santa lists this year?
Can you tell I'm excited for Christmas?
I'll try to post pictures of us making the collages, but it might be a few days...we have a very busy few days ahead of us.
UPDATES:
- My Nana has her masectomy and is doing very well. She thought it was hysterically funny that her discharge information reminded her not to have sex!
- The owls are working beautifully in the Crazies' room. It took some serious behavioral therapy and consistency on my part, but they get it. Matt is typically up before his owl anyway, but he's been cool about staying in his room. They work like a charm for naptime.
- Speaking of naptime, it's turned into Quiet Time on some days...we have a few Crazies who are starting to fight their naps. Oh, and one Crazy who likes to sleep under her bed...weird.

fun post but under her bed?
I'm so glad your grandmother is doing well! And yep, HHH is one of the best games ever. Crazy and noisy, but absolutely awesome!
Fun idea to take pictures for them. I have gone online in the past and found links to their xmas list. Might be fun to try.
The collage is such a fun idea! Can't wait to see what H&M come up with. :)
And I think I love your nana...hilarious! :) :)
Oh, and I remember HHH from when I was a kid. I LOVED it...but I remember my parents didn't like it so much. :) It was really noisy, if I remember correctly. Of course they had control of the situation...as an only child, I could only play if one of them would play with me. HA!
I think the collages are a great idea. Whenever we get a new toy catalog I let them look through it with me telling me what they want and I circle it and write their initial next to the toy. I will be writing their letters to Santa with all the specifics they tell me at the time. I will have Addy work on writing some parts on her own, though.
I think it is great that you let the Crazies have a restful day, sometimes everyone needs a day of hooky.
So I remember HHH but I have no idea how to "play" the game. We just smashed the hippos like crazy to eat the marbles. Just like the game Cooties. We would just build the cooties and play with them, I have no idea how to properly play it!
Glad Nana is well.
And sleeping under the bed gives me the heebie jeebies! Growing up there was some random hook or something under our beds and I remember my sister ripping her eye open on it playing hide and go seek. To this day I am an anti-under-the-bed girl. I'll use my legs to kick things out but I won't go under.
My kids loved the hungry hungry hippo game but I was disappointed because it's not nearly as sturdy as it was when we were kids. Also, my kids found ways to lose lots of the marbles. Also the marbles are now small plastic balls...no longer real marbles.
My 4-year old son got HHH for his birthday and he loves it! It is loud though, and we have had to search for marbles more than once (but haven't lost any yet).
Thank goodness all went well with your Nana :)
I love the idea of you snapping away like a tourist!
And Matt in the previous post? Genius! I'm all about my own life too LOL
What a great idea! I have my students make Wish Lists each year by cutting pictures out of catalogs/magazines.
I just wrote this in my post for tomorrow but J&S are so different when it comes to their wish lists. Jacob, just like last year, has one set thing in mind - and he sticks to it. Every time you ask him, he tells you the same thing. Sarah? She seems to have no idea and each time you ask her, she comes up with something different. So tough to figure her out! I think we'll have to do a store trip to let her explore some options! Adam was predictable...when I asked him what he wanted - he said Thomas.
Mine are 7 and 9, so Letters to Santa are an exercise in restraint. I'm getting the whole, "if it's expensive, you should has Santa for it instead of mom and dad!" DOH!
I love your idea for how to make a list! So creative!
On a random note, I got all done up the other day for my kindergartener's field trip and thought you'd be proud. :)
I love the picture idea!
Your blog is still cool, and your kids are beautiful. I have a lot of catching up to do ;)
i think this idea is genius. i'm going to try to remember it for next year. this year i think the kids would freak out and think that we are taking everything home with us! haha.
little h likes to sleep under her bed? does she take blankets under there, too??
I love days like that. And I love your collage idea! We may have to try that too...I feel like I'm terrible at picking out things for my own kids sometimes. They always like the toys I was sure they would be bored with.
